Recently, I was watching a documentary about Arnold Schwarzenegger coming out of acting to win the Mr. Olympia contest for a seventh time. The guys including Arnold were all big, but as compared to now they were just 'kids' on the block. I mean, can you even begin to match a guy like Ronnie Coleman with Arnold Schwarzenegger? Ronnie would blow him clear out of the water. However, the purpose of this thread is to discuss what you think it is that has made the bodybuilders of today so much more defined and huge as compared to Arnold's time? is it better drugs, or methods?
I find it hard to believe that the methods of muscle building have evolved so much over the years to achieve such drastic results. Therefore, from logical deduction, I would have to say it has more to do with drugs. 'Drugs' may not have a negative connotation here, as there are plenty of supplements out there that are legal. Of course I am no expert by any means on this subject. It is only my humble opinion.
Yes, I believe drugs has a big part to play in it. I believe what these huge men did to get humongous started when they were newly introduced to bodybuilding. They used roids (steroids) to get very big fast and then kept pumping hard while the effects wore off (not cold turkey of course), but there are some evidences of roids left such as a wide muscular jaw and a split between the teeth like Arnold has. now giving everyone the benefit of the doubt I seriously believe good machines also help. For instance the leg machine press which allows you to handle incredible amount of weight that you could not do if you had to squat it.
