At this time electric cars are not feasible to replace gas machines. The refill times are to slow and the electrical generation in many states and provinces could not handle a full scale electric car conversion. When batteries can be charged in 5 minutes and run 700 km per charge and solar panels can produce enough electricity to power them then fossil fuel will go. Ten to fifteen years we will see a big change in that many will be electric especially for local delivery and travel. Yah more nuclear waste that we have no idea how to contain. Any one see a clear alternate fuel out there? If so please also state why it will work.
Solar power would be the ideal because its free and causes no waste but that may take a long time to convert for a car! I don't see oil and gas leaving us anytime soon. Besides not having a better fuel source there are millions of jobs at stake.
There are no employment issues with any power source just a job change. After all how many panels will it take to replace 200 HP motor. FIY it is equivalent to about a 1500 watt motor. Unless we can make cleaner solar panels the toxic chemical in them are no great treat either. I know they are working on bio solar cells but they have a long way to go. After all we need to stop mining and draining oil from the earth. How many holes will it take before the upper crust really splits and creates some huge volcanos.
