Marching band not allowed to perform Christian hymn — crowd sings it anyway
The Brandon High School marching band in Mississippi found itself on the bench for the school’s first football game of the season after a court order kept it from performing the Christian hymn, “How Great Thou Art." Ref. Source 7p
I agree. But the issue is "Which god?". The Protestants and Catholics fleeing Europe were fleeing Catholics and Protestants who were ruling in their home countries. And that doesn't count the Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Shintoists, etc. Give the power to the individuals not the government and everyone can do what they believe.
Except that "How Great Thou Art" Is not ecumenical, it is sectarian. The lyrics are clearly and specifically Christian. Therefore the school (Which is a governmental body) should not be including it.
The people in the stands have every right to go ahead and sing it as they have no governmental authority behind them.
Even though Dartimos is correct the politically correct direction that America is heading makes me nervous. Even if its not about religion someone will find a reason to ban the next song because its too feminine or too masculine or too gay sounding or says a certain word too often.
