Wind blew deadly gas to US troops in Gulf War:
U.S. Bombings of Iraqi munitions factories in January 1991 released a plume of sarin gas that traveled more than 300 miles to affect "American troops" in Saudi Arabia, although military officials claimed at the time that chemical alarms triggered by the gas were false, a study released today shows. New study tests potential treatment to combat Gulf War Illness
An estimated 25 percent of the 700,000 troops who engaged in the fierce battles of Operation Desert Storm and related Gulf War combat during 1990-91 are fighting a different, but relentless foe: Gulf War illness. A new study tests potential treatment to combat Gulf War illness. Ref. Source 5p.
Well this is some good news for gulf war vets like me but I do not think they are looking into all the stuff we had to deal with. Yes there is the stress of being there accompanied by the depleted uranium rounds that they used to attack the armor units of Iraq, plus the chemical factories that were blown up, The unknown ordinance on the scud missiles that were taken out in air, The chemicals we were hit with when the NBC detectors kept going off. The little pills we got, The shots we got while in country, plus the burning of human waste
Since they are not taking all of these factors into consideration I think they will fall short on some of the tests. If it helps some then more power to those that are helped. I think there is more to it that just the Brain and immune system.
KN,
Yes, yes, and yes. Got it all. In addition to that when we liberated Kuwait City we drove into the city at noon. The sun was out and it was a beautiful, sunny day. Then a quick desert shower rolled in and it clouded up. It got as dark as if it was 12 midnight instead of 12 noon. It rained for about 10 minutes and then the sun came out again. The reason it got dark is that the clouds held in all the soot and smoke from the oil fires burning from Saddam setting Kuwait's oil wells on fire. Well, I looked down at my uniform and it as spotted black and I realized that I was breathing all the garbage in. Now I'm actually going to the VA next week to be reevaluated for my military retirement percentage due to GWS.
I have a few of the symptoms but not all of them. I have the chronic fatigue, I now have fibromyalgia, I have a very hard time breathing at times, and I have sleep apnea to name a few. I know it is seriously effecting my ability to work but I am hoping to last another year so I can look at retiring. Then I can spend more time fighting with the VA because we all know how much fun that is.
