
While a veteran can be a good asset to a police force it can have complication. I think the weapons training and the discipline offered in the service can carry over nicely to the police force. At the same time if the veteran is a combat vet after seeing action then you have someone who could be a potential problem. While not all veterans look to be aggressive or suffer from PTSD there are those that do and they could hide it so others do not see it until something triggers a episode.
While there will never be a good answer on how to make sure you can screen the real problems out there is methods for improvement. I think it is the same with other potential bad apples from the streets themselves without being veterans too. The screening process has to improve so that we are making sure we are getting the best we can in as police officers to protect the citizens of this nation.
