Fundamentalists
I heard that there are groups called, 'Fundamentalists' that do not follow the FLDS or Warren Jeffs, but who privately live polygamy, is that true?
Doing a little checking and found this on Wiktionary:
QUOTE |
Noun: fundamentalist (plural fundamentalists) One who reduces religion to strict interpretation of core or original texts. (Christian) Originally referred to an adherent of an American Christian movement that began as a response to the rejection of the accuracy of the Bible, the alleged deity of Christ, Christ's atonement for humanity, the virgin birth, and miracles. These points were first listed in a book series entitled "The Fundamentals: A Testimony to the Truth" published in 1909 and affirmed by the PCUSA in its 1910 Minutes of the General Assembly. (pejorative) As fundie or fundy to indicate someone that is stupid, poorly informed, and mentally unstable. |
QUOTE |
fundamentalism (religion) The tendency to reduce a religion to its most fundamental tenets, based on strict interpretation of core texts. The beliefs held by those in this movement. Strict adherence to any set of basic ideas or principles. |
Yes there are many other groups that classify themselves as fundamentalists. But they do not label themselves as FLDS.
I am interested in any serious religious connection and not just a mere lifestyle change. Robert9876, do you have any personal experiences of people you know or if you have been or are in the situation itself then even better, can you tell me more?
