Failed being mobile friendly, said it could be the googlebot is blocked.
Having a hard time registering the site because it wanted a zip, tgz, tar.gz. I zipped the file and then it said nothing was in it. There are other ways but can't find the area it was discussing.
I am not sure how to get on notable sites, or where I would put them on mine.
Meeting back here again after doing renovations to your site. Let's recap what has been done:
1. Your site is now mobile compliant without loosing your look or sending users to another theme. Your server has been adjusted to optimize loading on the end user's browser.
2. You now have the correct meta tags installed and configured.
3. You are integrated with social networks
Now here is what you should begin to do and a lot of this is ongoing as well:
New content and lots of it. Feed your niche by making sure your major topics are specific to your site and will be unlikely found anywhere else.
Try to also focus on content that may interest a user who may be outside the realm of your site but would become interested if they knew more. For instance, if your site is about oranges and a person is interested in apples you can use the common ground of "Fruit". This way you cater for a wide variety of users.
When you add a thread to your forum make sure and like it, tell your social friends about it and get them to come reply to it so a discussion ensues on it. The more the merrier as it makes the 'rank' of that topic go up the search engine ladder.
You have mentioned linking to other sites. Where would I put these links? I have a spot for websites of interest.
The person who started the quest has a site and links to others, but I wanted to have a good answer before I asked him if I could get linked with his site.
Thanks Jim
Its more about other sites linking to you. Not just any site, but reputable sites. Sites with a high page rank.
Yes, if he links to others get him to do that. Sometimes they want you to link back, you can oblige by having a link back page or directory. Learn more about how this works: Page Rank.
One way to get good link backs is talking about your site on some of the popular social networks. If you have the buttons on your site to those social networks then anyone passing through can like you both ways.
This might be harder but if you have a happening site then ask for time on a local radio show or some other medium that might attract visitors.
I feel Google has been changing their algorithm so much to promote the sites they want to promote and the rest are left out. Its one of the reasons we can hardly maintain rankings in there. SEO works very well with Bing and Yahoo, even Duck, Duck Go but with Google they are changing the game.
