Oberon loosens his war axe and muttering something about "Wait up you idiot" Charges after to form a front line and keep Rethal from being flanked.
The goblins charge your party from the edge of the darkness. You can see now that they are entering the light of Aseneth's torch that there are six and not just four of them.
The first one to reach the group ends up impaling itself on the end of Gareth's sword. Another two fall to the quick and deadly precision of Oberon's battle axe. A fourth is brought down by one of Gervase's sling bullets and an arrow from Jess' short bow.
The remaining two shove their spears ineffectively at Oberon and Rethal. Their eyes widen and you can see a look of fear and doubt in their eyes as they realize that over half of their number have just been easily wiped out without them being able to so much as scratch one of their opponents.
But their epiphany came too late. The fifth goblin danced away from Rethal's deadly long sword straight into Oberon's waiting battle axe while the sixth wilted under two deadly arrows from Jess.
Once your excitement has worn off, you enter the room that the goblins once occupied. You find that the tunnel opens out into a twenty-foot by thirty-foot room with a set of stairs going up. A chalk line has been drawn down the middle of the room. Against the near wall on your right is an open topped barrel with several crude wooden mugs on a table near by. Another barrel against the far left wall has a bunch of what look like broom handles sticking up out of it. You find an old knotted cloth rope carelessly dropped perpendicular across the white chalk line.
Out of Character: : Do we have to cross the chalk line to get to the stairs? Oberon stays to make sure all the Kooks are in fact dead and then follow the group. "Step over, not onto the chalk" He prods at the floor near the mark to be sure the chalk isn't covering the line of a pit trap or sliding floor.
The chalk line stretches the length of the room from north to south at about the middle of the room. The party will have to cross the chalk line in order to get to the stairs.
Gervase claps the dwarf on the shoulder. "Of course, Oberon speaks wisely - the chalk could hide a trap. I read about such a situation in..." But he stops himself from going on for too long. "Jess, could you take a look with Oberon. Maybe hold the knotted cloth rope to steady yourself if a pit does open."
You search the room thoroughly and do not find any traps. The broom handles in the barrel are actually spear shafts, there are about sixty of them.
On the goblins, you find 110 cp all together. At the bottom of a small barrel with water in it there is a piece of unpolished onyx that could be worth a decent amount if cleaned and polished.
The stairs to the south has a landing and then turns to the west. At the top of the first set of stairs, before the landing, is a trip wire stretched across the top step. It does not appear to be attached to anything, it's just there to make anybody coming down the stairs trip and fall.
