"Any suggestions? Do you think we could shine a light in there to see what is in there as I think it already knows we are here." Once done Ardo take a few steps back to rummage through his backpack and begins to light a lantern.
"I agree, I don't think the stealthy approach is an option," says Davik, he pulls out some of the flasks of oil he still has on his person "I was intending to use these on the undead, but if this thing is chained up, we might be able to set it on fire and burn it without getting too close, but my worry is that it's going to alert everyone we're here to kill. By the time we get through the minions, the Necromancer will be long gone."
"I have a bullseye lantern that will light it up and if we see something chained it will make for good target practice if it is chained."
As the party looks into the cave, you see what at first looks like a great cave bear fully eight feet high charging out of the cave mouth at you. Then you notice that instead of a snout filled with teeth this creature has a powerful beak; its matted coat seems to be a mix of blackish-brown fur and yellow-brown feathers. It suddenly lunges at you, surprisingly agile for so bulky a beast, swiping with its mighty paws and snapping with that wicked-looking beak.
The rattling chain that you heard was the chain secured to his leg. The problem being is that the length of chain appears to give him the ability to leave the mouth of the cave for up to several tens of feet.
Hunter says, "You are as strong as your weakest link." Hunter goes back to where the chains cannot reach and fires at it until dead.
Ardo starts tossing warhammers at it while making sure he is out of range of the chain. "This is a shame such a beast being kept locked up as some sort of guard."
Davik tries to remember what he knows of this creature. Specifically if there's any way he can calm it down and get it on their side.
