Delgar retreats to a safe distance from the cave mouth not knowing what this monstrousity is only seeing how deadly it is he ready's his sling and begins to attack it.
Out of character: That is some of the best damage I have rolled for warhammers ever, here is the correct amounts I am assuming this creature is of the large variety?
As the Owlbear charges out of the cave and the party readies to meet it, Jude rolls his eyes and says, “Here we go with fruitless violence, once again.” Meanwhile, Gabriel, not wanting to let Tishpak go or have a chance to escape, holds on tight to the rope binding Tishpak and offers his prayers to the party that they may overcome and be victorious over this foe.
Hunter takes a step or two back and fires his bow. Despite the size of the creature, his only able to penetrate the creature’s feathery/furry hide with one of his arrows. The Owlbear gives a screech of pain but continues to charge Drethen who is caught flat footed and is unable to avoid the beast. Fortunately, the monster is only able to scratch him with one of its claws (3hp damage).
As Drethen fights the Owlbear, Davik starts racking his brain to try to remember if there’s anything that he knows about Owlbears. Given that he’s not had any firsthand experience with them and no practical life experience that would have brought him into contact with any knowledge about the creatures, he’s not able to come up with anything other than what he can deduct from the creature’s appearance that stands in front of him.
Delgar takes the opportunity to fire off a sling bullet, but the round bounces harmlessly off of the creature’s feathery hide. All is not lost, however, as Ardo and Drethen team up to finish off the creature. Ardo’s hammer grazes the beast with just enough effectiveness to cause the monster to expose its vulnerable underbelly to Drethen, who takes advantage and kills it with two deadly strikes.
Out of Character: Did you use up all the rolls or are you taking this round by round?
In Character: Hunter keeps firing while saying to Drethen, "You do realize the thing is tied and you don't need to go that close right?" he chuckles.
"A shame to kill such a creature," says Davik "It probably never knew what freedom was. I wish there could have been another way."
Davik looks towards the cave the Owl Bear came out of "Is that cave where we need to go?"
"I think it was put here to guard the cave and keep others out. The easiest way in was to kill it even if it did not deserve it. We would have had to kill it even to get close enough to free it. Now that we have dealt with this lets head inside. Oh and before I forget I can take a healing if anyone has a spare one handy." Drethen heads towards the cave to search inside where the owlbear was being held.
Despite the fact that the Owlbear is lying dead on the ground, Hunter continues to pump a few more arrows into the carcass, just to be sure.
Entering the first chamber, you find nothing but offal, bones, and other signs of a large creature had been living here.
The first chamber leads almost immediately into a second room that contains little else than broken furniture.
