As Hunter is dragged towards the tree, the maw opens wide and attempts to chomp down on him. But, Hunter is able to wiggle out of the way and avoid being bitten. Gabriel's tree does the same thing, but it's mouth chomps down harmlessly on Gabriel's armor.
In a fit of desperation, Delgar swings his staff down on the branch dragging him toward his tree. As luck would have it, he's able to break the branch and receive some respite from being dragged towards certain doom.
Ardo, being momentarily free from branches, swings his mace but is unable to hit the wiley branches. Davik swings his sword and is able to take a chunk out of the branch that has him held, but isn't able to damage it enough to break it. As a result, he's still being dragged towards the creature's mouth.
Hunter swings his sword again at the branch that has him captured and is able to break through the rest of the branch freeing himself for the moment.
The tree that has Davik pulls him to its maw and chomps down. The pain rushes through Davik's shoulder as the monster buries its teeth into him (11hp damage).
Drethen rushes over to Gabriel and starts chopping at the branches. He's able to severe two of the branches and set Gabriel free from his captor. The tree attacking Ardo grabs at him with its remaining branches, but Ardo deftly blocks the vegetation with his shield. Meanwhile, Delgar's tree manages to grab him again and starts dragging him back to its dinner hole.
Gabriel, now free from the tree, swings at it with his sword and manages to finish off what Drethen started. The tree slumps over to the side, motionless.
Hunters freedom is also short lived as one of the branches of his tree strikes out at him and is able to snag his ankle. Delgar, also entrapped, isn't so lucky this time around and is unable to hit his captor with his staff.
Ardo swings his mace again, but is also unable to hit his foe. Davik, reeling in pain, is able to finally cut his way through the tree's branch and manages to roll away from the tree's mouth.
Hunter retaliates against his tree and is able to free himself from the new branch that had him by the ankle. Despite Davik's attempt to get away from his tree, the creature is able to reach out and grab him again. Davik finds himself once again being dragged towards the creature's pie hole. Or, in this case, halfling hole.
Thankfully, Drethen rushes up and severs the branch holding Davik, freeing him once again from certain doom. At that moment, Ardo cries out as he is once again snagged by a branch and is forced, once again, towards his tree.
By some small miracle, or because of the distraction of Ardo's cry, Delgar is able to avoid the bite from his tree as Gabriel runs up and severs the branch that his holding him.
End of round: There are four trees left and only Ardo is currently being held by branches.
"By gods, I can not wait to start a nice fire with this tree once it is dead."
Davik retreats slightly, pulls out a flask of oil, lights the cloth that he made as a makeshift fuse and aims for the mouth of the tree that just tried to eat him.
Out of Character: I'm just putting down a single attack roll. Not sure how long all of this takes.
Fearing the worst as the tree tries biting down on him, Gabriel is surprised and relieved to see that whatever the plant is its teeth cannot penetrate the metal of his armour.
With Drethen's help, he's able to finally break free of the branches. Gabriel's relieved that he came to no harm though the paladin sees Davik had not been so lucky. He help free others, once he was no longer in danger.
With only four trees left, and only Ardo still captured, Gabriel does what he believes now he should have done before and draws Fuascailt. Once drawn, he will try to land a heavy blow upon the branches holding his companion.
Hunter must have been hit in the head by a branch or when he was pulled to the ground because he felt like he was waiting for an eternity and then suddenly he saw himself against the tree again. He attacks.
Hunter's tree continues to attack him but he's able to dodge or block the branches as they reach out for him. Seeing an opportunity, he counter attacks, but isn't able to connect.
Ardo's tree drags him forward and chomps down on him, but he too is protected by his armor and the tree isn't able to do any damage.
Delgar swings at his tree, but his staff just bounces off the gnarly wood without doing any damage. Gabriel attacks the tree that is attacking Delgar with Fuascailt and puts an end to it.
Davik lights a flask of oil and throws it at his tree, but in the confusion and chaos of the fight, he misses the tree. The flask flies past the tree, landing in the brush beyond. The bottle shatters on something and you can see a large burst of fire in the vegetation. The dry leaves and branches quickly take to the fire and it isn't long before the flames spread.
Drethen manages to get an attack in on the same tree that Davik targeted. The tree is now moving sluggishly and it appears it has only a little life left in it but not so little that it isn't able to snag both Davik and Drethen in its remaining branches as it begins dragging them both towards its gaping maw.
Ardo swings his mace at his tree and is able to break the branch that is holding him.
Hunter's tree continues to attack him and is able to grab him with one of its branches. Hunter counters, but isn't able to damage the tree.
The tree attacking Ardo continues its attack, but Ardo manages to avoid its branches. Delgar moves up to help Ardo, but isn't able to damage the tree, either.
Gabriel, seeing both Davik and Drethen snagged by one tree, swings Fuascailt and destroys that tree as well, freeing both Davik and Drethen.
Davik gets to his feet and notices that the flames from his flask of oil are growing. Based on the size and how quickly they're spreading, Davik guesses that they have about two more rounds before they begin to be engulfed by flames, themselves.
Drethen moves up to help attack the tree on Ardo and Delgar, but isn't able to penetrate the trees thick bark. Using Drethen as a distraction, Ardo is able to hit the tree with his mace and the tree goes limp.
Out of Character: : One tree left fighting Hunter and the flames from the flask of oil are starting to get out of control…
"Who on earth started this fire!" shouts Hunter as he battles with a tree.
"If I wanted a fireplace I would have asked for one" he continues while swinging.
Out of Character: Those were some of the worst rolls ever, let's see if it is better this time.
