Hunter is surprised by it all, he does not know whether to assist her or the person she attacks. In the spur of the moment he tries to pull her back saying, "There will be no fighting unless we say. Give him chance to explain."
Though Gabriel could agree that being buried alive was something to be very angry about, even he has to say softly as he places a hand on her shoulder, "This death will not bring you answer, so I ask… please hold thy blade for the time being."
Madeline, caught in a half-crazed rage at seeing her brother, escapes the grasp of Hunter and Gabriel and charges Charles. The man looks frightened and turns several shades whiter than he already is but seems to pull himself together in time to cast a spell at Madeline before she's able to get into range with her sword.
Charles recites a quick incantation and Madeline freezes in her tracks with the blade of her sword a mere inches from Charles' neck.
"What is the meaning of this?!?" Charles cries. "Who are you and what have you done to the corpse of my sister?!?" The man takes cover behind a piece of furniture from you and prepares to cast another spell should he feel it necessary.
"Charles, your sister is not dead but alive. She must have been under the influence of some type of magic that made it appear as she had died. Once your spell expires you will see this to be true. We mean you know harm as we are just trying to escape this mansion."
"Yes, we heard her while within the Chapel and helped release her. She is very much alive," Gabriel says as well, though considering the paladin does decide to use Detect Evil. Since the two were focused on each other he believed he could do such without interruption.

Taking a moment to scan the room, Hunter finds that the room is very dimly lit, maybe three or four candles burn within the entire 30' by 30' area. He finds it too dim to get any kind of reflection of anything from his sword or any other reflective surface. The room also appears to be a library of some sort.
Charles is near a desk piled high with books, one of which sits open in front of the chair he had been sitting at. The also contains a small couch and a small, fluffy bed near one of the walls.
As the party talks to Charles, Gabriel focuses on Charles and tries to detect any evil intent. After a minute, Gabriel is not able to detect anything greater than a small tingle.
Meanwhile, Charles yells back at the party, "Quit disturbing me! Leave me be and take this abomination with you!" The last statement is made while pointing towards the held form of Madeline.
Seeing that the room looks to be a library Drethen speaks up. "Can someone get more light in here. IF this is the library we have been looking for maybe the answer to getting out of here can be found here."
