Hunter is suspicious and wonders if the robed man is not the beast. He blurts out, "You are the beast we were looking for that has been hurting the people, show your true self!"
Even while saying this he is searching the room.
Gabriel will seek to focus on the robe figure, see if he can detect any great or notable evil about him yet keeps quiet for a moment with weapon ready for the creature in case it sudden jumped out of the shadows. He will frown at Hunter, who again seemed overly quick in shooting off accusations. Edited: Thomaslee on 14th Aug, 2017 - 6:34am
"Beast?!?" the abbot exclaims. "I'm no beast!" He goes on to explain that he saw nothing out of the ordinary as he was asleep until a few minutes ago when he was awakened by noises outside his window.
The abbot begins pacing as he talks. During his pacing, the abbot walks into the red light and stops. He is overcome by an immediate transformation. The abbot Theophile becomes the Beast of Averoigne.
It is difficult to see the exact form of the Beast since it is surrounded by a swirling, shadowy red mist. Inside the blood-red mist, a black semi-serpentine form can barely be distinguished. The serpentine beast has a large flat snakish head with sharp serrated teeth, arms and a serpent’s tail instead of legs. Its arms end in ebony talons.
As soon as the creature transforms, it charges the party.
Out of Character: Actions with initiative, pls.
Hunter shouts, "I knew it!" He starts firing arrows at first hoping that they do work on the creature.
Ardo wonders to himself what have I done in a previous life to be constantly beset by evil. Donning his shield and magical mace he steps up beside Drethen and Gabriel to face this new foe. "Comrades be careful maybe we can knock him unconscious and save this man's life and remove whatever curse has beset him."
Looking to Ardo, comes the reply and a thankful smile, "Yes, exactly that. I will see what I can do about knocking him out, and see if we can move him out from before the red light." He as speaks, Gabriel prepares for battle with his morningstar as the paladin charges forward.
Out of Character: My mind is going blank on bonuses at the moment, but I am a bit tired. There is at least a +1 to damage since the morningstar is a sentient magic weapon. Edited: Thomaslee on 14th Aug, 2017 - 6:57pm
Drethen is the first to react to the beast. Jumping at the creature and swinging his sword, he swings wide and misses the creature. The beast, now enraged, charges back at Drethen using both of his claws as well as his bite to attack. The creature hits with both claws but misses with his bite (6 HP total on Drethen).
Hunter fires two arrows at the creature and hits with one of his arrows, but the arrows seems to bounce off causing only a minor wound that seems to close and heal almost immediately.
Ardo and Gabriel follow up with their attacks, but also miss their marks.
Swinging his sword again, Drethen manages to damage the creature on his third attempt. It appears that the magical enchantment of his sword is able to actually damage the creature as it lets out a loud howl as it attacks Drethen, once again. This time, the creature misses with one claw, but lays into Drethen with a vicious 2nd claw and grisly bite (18 HP total on this attack to Drethen).
Hunter fires two more arrows at the beast just to confirm that they indeed do not do any lasting damage to the beast.
Ardo and Gabriel, once again, fail to hit the creature.
Out of Character: Thomaslee, the morning star is +2 so you get a +2 to hit and to damage.
