Thane, as a thief has no honor and thus looks for none in others, so he looks over the gentleman, gets confirmation from the party and makes the sale after checking all the good pieces for authenticity.
That's good, Drethen. Just take a zero off of each of those numbers. You can sell it for 2,400 gp giving each member 480 gp. That is unless you were converting to sp.
Thane is very happy to have the new coin. He takes his 480 gps and the 15 gps from the copper conversion and sets off to immediately pay his debt. To the pawn shop owner he gives 45 gps, Thane says,
"You see, a man of my word, lets hope you give me a better deal next time.... Now, I need to get myself a better bow so how much will you buy this one for seeing that you have already made a big profit on it?"
Then Thane goes to the armory to better supply himself.
Out of Character: Are all items available there? Besides distance is there an advantage to having a long bow in 2nd ed Dungeons & Dragons? Also besides leather can I wear studded, I can't remember if it gives me a better AC. Would boots and a helm help?
480 gold is more than Ilthin has ever seen in one place, including when he was serving watch over the tax collector's take before it travelled to the capitol.
For a moment he considers taking his treasure and buying a piece of land near his parents and settling down to farm the land and farm, maybe find a wife and raise a family. For a moment.
But he knows there is another life out there. A chance to be a character in the stories that people tell in the tavern at night instead of one of the crowd listening to the bard.
He heads off to do some shopping and preparation for the next adventure.
Out of Character: : All items in the PHB are available. Long bow only gives the range advantage, but you can purchase sheaf arrows that do 1d8 damage instead of the flight arrows that do 1d6 damage.
Thieves can wear studded, but it will be a slight negative on some of your thieving skills.
I've never really had boots or helm play into things. I know that helms are supposed to protect against called shots. I'd say the main advantage to a helm is if somebody tried to knock you out with a sap, or something like that.
