The party makes its way up to Thane with the last remaining bandit leading the way.
Thane investigates the corridors and finds no sense of anything living or dead in the area. Investigating the door the finds nothing out of the ordinary other than the door is locked.
Thane has a go at picking the lock with his pcik tools. If he cannot succeed he will step back and say to one of the stronger ones in the party, "All yours..."
Thane sets about picking the lock with expert precision and withing a minute he hears the satisfying 'click' of the lock opening. Unfortunately, at the same time as the lock opens, a previously undetected needle shoots out of the lock and pricks Thane's finger. (Thane needs to roll a save verses poison)
Opening the door, the party is unable to believe their eyes. This cozy chamber stands in sharp contrast to all the bare, smoky rooms you've encountered so far in this cave complex. The floor is covered by an attractive carpet of bright, cheerful colors, primarily yellows and greens. Comfortable furniture, all of it apparently sized for children, fills the place. A banked fire smolders in the tiled fireplace and a rack of fine pipes rests on the low mantelpiece next to a pipeweed box. A nearby bookcase holds several small volumes. Several small beds line the rear of the chamber in neat rows - eight in all.
Thane yells out a few old hag expletives after getting pricked. Not being deterred Thane looks at the bandit to see if his eyes will give him a hint of where he should looking. "This better be good or you'll be the next to be pricked" he says tauntingly.
Drethen shoves the bandit into the room. As the bandit stumbles across the floor, he steps on a caltrop that blended into the pattern in the carpet on which it was sitting. The bandit reacts and losses his balance thanks in part to the spike sticking through his foot and in part to the rope that Drethen has him tied up with. Falling backwards the bandit lands on the carpet impaling a second caltrop through the back of his skull.
The bandit lies dead on the floor, bleeding out on the carpet.
Thane goes to react initially, but is stopped by a sharp pain in his lower arm which seems to be originating from where he was stuck with the needle. (Thane takes 2hp of poison damage)
"Well darn it there goes our bait." Drethen crouches down to see from eye level if there are more Caltrops scattered about so he can move them safely out of the way. He will look about the room after that to see if there is a sack he can hold them in as they could become useful later on.
Thane shakes his head and looks at Drethen, "Couldn't you wait for me to check out the room first?" then he staggers back being affected by the poison.
"Guys, this isn't good, who has an antidote before I die here along with the bandit?"
