The public is being asked to help identify a gunman who fatally shot a Texas deputy while he pumped gas, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said at a briefing today.
"We have not taken anyone into custody. We have people we are talking to, trying to follow-thru methodically. We don't want to be jumping to conclusions," Hickman said.
Deputy Darren H. Goforth, 47, was in uniform when he was shot while filling up his patrol car at a service station Friday night. "This was a cold-blooded execution," The sheriff said.
Earlier today the Texas Department of Public Safety said there was a person of interest in custody. Hickman didn't explain the discrepancy between the reports. Ref. CNN
Texas authorities say they arrested a suspect Saturday in connection with the execution-style shooting of Deputy Darren H. Goforth at a Houston-area gas station.
Shannon J. Miles is charged with capital murder, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said. Goforth was attacked from behind and shot multiple times as he was refueling his vehicle at a convenience store on Friday night. The motive for the killing is unclear. Ref. CNN
