Is 'God bless you' a classroom distraction?

A professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley recently banned the phrase 'God bless you' from class. Is that justified? Ref. Source 1k

You Bless God

I think people say it just as they may say, 'Have a good day', its not like they are saying it to scold or belittle, we can get too politically correct sometimes. Banning something like this just makes you sound sour and walking with a grudge.
