Alexi gives Gradard a quizzical look when he arrives at the inn, sort of a where have you been? look, but he waves the gnome over and invites him to join the rest of them at a table.
"We were just discussing our next move" He explains to Gradard "Brennic here has shown us a note from a young woman asking him to meet her behind the Temple of Sune two hours after midnight in three days time. I was just saying that we did make a commitment to take care of the goblin problem in Brixia and we might consider taking care of that mission first. However, in order to do that and return in time we would have to make sure we could deal with the issue adequately within about a day. Otherwise we may be late in meeting this young woman, and if she is in dire need I would hate to miss the opportunity to be of service. What are your thoughts?" With this he casts his eyes over all the others seeking everyone's input on the decision.
Gradard just smiles sheepishly and says "Sometimes my hobbies get the better of me, haheho!". "Let's get a good night's sleep for our adventure in Birixia tomorrow". Gradard pays Remus what he owes, goes to his room and bathes to get rid of the sewer smell, then goes to bed.
Upon returning to the inn, Skreed approaches the only faces he recognizes in the room. A wave of concern runs through him as he finds Cadmus, who he'd been relying on as a defacto ambassador in this world, missing.
He pulls up a chair and sits, collecting his share of the gold he will need to pay the blacksmith and checks in with his acquaintances, having no knowledge of what their plans may be going forward. He acknowledges that given their shared affliction it would be best to stick with them but his first and only priority at this point is to seek out the weaver of time as Jyratis suggested.
Skreed balks at the price of accomodations here. What little coin he has is owed to the blacksmith and he is more comfortable sleeping in the open air anyway. [Are there alternatives to staying in the inn?]
Alexi can feel himself getting more anxious as time goes by sitting at the table in the tavern. He fights the urge to use strong ale to drown out the images of war that play in the head, but acknowledges that doing so would likely put him in a position the next day where he is less capable on the potential battlefield or find it difficult to make the journey to Brixia.
Hearing no one aside from Gradard make any suggestions regarding the priority of their quests he announces his intent to leave for Brixia at daybreak and suggests everyone try to get some rest so that they will be ready for the journey and what may await them. Alexi retires for the evening after paying his gold piece to the inn keep. He goes to his room, and slowly removes his armor the thousand yard stare again on his face.
Placing the armor carefully near the bed he draws his sword, sits on the bed, and begins to sharped it with the small whetstone that he keeps in his pack. Slowly the stone slides over the metal over and over in an almost hypnotic pattern as he stares at the blade remembering where it has been and the lives that it has taken while in his hand. After about thirty minutes he returns the whetstone to his pack, sheathes the sword and then climbs into bed placing the sword next to him under the covers. He lies awake for an hour, his past refusing to give him any respite until he drifts off to sleep.
Brennic retires a little weary but excited by the prospect of not one, but two heroic quests. He will happily pay for Screed's fare and accommodation that night. The rest of the party will find him up early, already breakfasted and ready to set off for Brixia.
Those of you who sleep in the Inn, do so and the night passes uneventfully. Skreed, you can find all manner of boarding house flop house or even an alley if the price range doesn't suit. If you are more interested in sleeping outside the city the guard will happily let you camp just outside the walls. They even send someone over to check on you in the morning.
[Places to stay: (Board and food)
Boarding house: 2 silver (Shared rooms 5-10 people, decent but boring bread)
Flop house: 8 copper (Think dank warehouse with dirty mats to sleep on, stale bread and maybe a rotten piece of fruit)
Inn: 1 gold (The Unnatural rose Inn you are in now, decent food, separate bedrooms)
Hiring a place to stay: 5 gold plus (Rent a house, from your average place to an almost palace if you want to pay 30g+ food and servants not included)]
The trip to Brixia the next day is fairly uneventful. Passing several large farms the minor road stretches out across the plains as far as the eye can see in both direction. The odd farmer waves to you as they harvest their crops although many do not even look up. There are few travelers on this road, it appears that it ends at Brixia. It is almost deserted as you trudge along in the bright sun.
You arrive to the hamlet in the early evening. The shadows stretch long. You see a collection of small, but well made buildings butting up against a small hill. A fire burns in the center of the hamlet with a sizable assortment of cooking utensils around and over it. Several women wave to you as they tend to the fire, preparing the evenings meal for the populace. There doesn't seem to be any security of any kind....
If you are looking for other members of the village they periodically return from their fields and quickly enter their homes. As the evening comes to full force families come out of their homes and gather around the fire, eating drinking and generally being quite merry. They are more than eager to have you join them for dinner, regaling you with not the most interesting tales being farmers, but also are highly interested in news from Oharius.
Alexi takes in the scene as he walks into town with his new companions but the seemingly peaceful scene seems to increase his anxiety rather than put him at ease. "These people do not have the look of being under threat of anything, let along goblins" he mutters to the other members of the party "Where is the militia or guard? Where are the security measures one might expect from a village under siege? I've been to many villages that were under threat..."
He pauses for a moment to weigh his next words carefully lest he reveal too much of his past "You usually don't see people going to and fro so care free. They are coming in from the fields seemingly without fear or anxiety of any kind."
Alexi brings this up again during the meal as he leans over and whispers to Brennic "See what I mean? They gather out in the open for this kind of merriment? They do not seem concerned about their security at all...this makes me nervous."
The villagers merriment goes so far as to make Alexi a bit suspicious and he carefully studies the people and the environment around him to see if his experience tells him anything, or gives him a bad feeling about the place. Are there signs that the village has been attacked recently? Does anyone appear to be armed?
Out of Character: Not sure what roll if any you would like me to make for this
"Hmm, you may be right friend. Are you sure we're at the right village?"
Brennic will try to maintain vigilance and watchfulness but will easily succumb to the merriment and pleasant demeanor. He will share news of Oharius and will include an account of the party's last adventure. He will down play the involvement of the under-dwellers but play up the scariness and strangeness of of big city's sewer system and the strange devil-man who lived there.
He can be briefly brought back by Alexi's worried looks and mutterings but will forget soon as it is a warm pleasant night in good company. How could anything bad happen here?
