Aerendyl leaves the barn in the early morning and approaches a large oak tree growing nearby. Closing his eyes he performs a short meditation under the branches as the birdsong reaches its loudest.
Then he returns to the group and announces "I am ready to go when you are, friends. I hope that together we can find the answer to this nightmare before it returns to haunt us again."
Having picked up some of the talk about the reason for being in Brixia he says "Since it appears our benefactor may have been less than sincere in his intentions, perhaps if we do find goblins we should attempt to ply them for information rather than attacking them immediately."
As the group walks, Aerendyl will use his nature skills to look for tracks or other signs of goblins in the grass.
The party depart the village in an orderly fashion, before the sun reaches too high in the sky. Circling round the grassy hill you see that little grows upon it except for mean grasses and weeds, such as inkweed. (To give an idea of the size of this thing it is about 500m to 600m high rising up in a fairly even cone shape from the plains around it. 1600-2000feet)
Come late morning you are most of the way round the hill. Aerendyl, you stop suddenly when the untouched grass and trees you have been coming through are now showing significant signs of goblins. The gnawed on bones of small animals, trees with limbs cut off up to as far as a goblin can reach, presumably for firewood as the branches are no longer there.
Aerendyl suddenly halts and quietly points out the stripped trees. "There are goblins around here, without any doubt" he whispers to the rest of the group. "We need to move slowly and keep an eye out for traps or ambushes."
Aerendyl casts an eye along the base of the hill, looking for cave entrances. "Can anyone spot a path in the undergrowth that might betray a goblin thoroughfare?" he whispers.
He performs a few deft gestures and mumbles some words in a low voice, casting Guidance on himself to try and increase his awareness.
Upon Aerendyl's observation that goblins have been in the area, Alexi slowly draws his sword, trying not to make too much noise and becomes more vigilant as the party moves through foliage; his shield up in front of him and his sword at the ready. His heart leaps in his chest at the prospect of impending combat, but his exterior expression remains calm and collected.
Alexi begins looking about for the possible thoroughfare that Aerendyl mentioned, but constantly glances around trying to take in his environment and spot any potential ambush or traps.
Brennic hefts his trident ready for imminent mayhem. However he has never seen a goblin before. He starts imagining larger and more hideous creatures with every step. Nevertheless he looks about trying to anticipate where the creatures could be hiding.
And....nothing. No sound save for the faint rustle of leaves in the trees. Nothing comes out of a hiding place....Nothing jumps down from a tree.
Aerendyle you eventually notice that the markings are old. At least two to three days old. The wounds in the trees have dried up and the bones on the ground have various forest detritus lightly sprinkled upon them,(And by sprinkled I mean to say it looks natural, wind blowing etc etc).
Brennic, looking around desperately you start to realise that the branches cut off the trees only go up to your shoulder, and not higher.
