[Gradard casts sleep centred on a point sufficiently far away that it will not hit any of his companions, but such that it's area of effect encompasses all the rats]

Gradard taking the initiative starts chanting....A white mist streams from his fingertips, spreading out towards the giant rats scurrying along the ceiling. Three of them loose their hold as they drop asleep and splash into the water, only to be set upon by a nearby swarm.

Rhovador takes the opportunity to fire into the swarm, nailing another giant rat. (Rolled to hit: 19, damage:9)

Alexi hefts his longsword, checking his surroundings it seems to be quiet in the rear, striding forward (The pathway is just wide enough for two abreast if you are polite) he slashes down on the closest rat(S). His weapon slashes down cleaving a small knot of rats into shreds. (Rolled to hit: 23, damage:5)

And then the rats fall upon you all. A horde of rats fall upon Alexi and Brennic. (Rolls to hit Alexi: 14, 12, two misses. Rolls to hit Brennic: 13,5, two misses).

More rats climb out of the water behind the two valiant fighters and attack Rhovador and Gradard. (Roll to hit Gradard: 8, miss. Roll to hit Rhovador: 24! [Critical Hit]. 8 damage) A Giant rat with glowing red eyes squeals as it senses weakness. It bites down onto Rhovador's leg (Flavor, no extra penalties) tearing a huge chunk of flesh out.

"NO" Bellows Brennic noticing his ally stagger. He whirls around, rats falling from him as even more climb on and lashes out with his war hammer. (Roll to hit: 20, damage 8) Felling the giant rat with a chunk of Rhovador's flesh still in it's mouth with a solid blow to the head.

And So the scene is thus: Brennic and Alexi are at the "Front" Absolutely covered by rats. Gradard is currently the rear, battling one giant rat. Rhovador in the middle is currently unmolested, however he did take sizable damage from one giant rat. Rhovador you are in the threat zones of all the rats even if you have nothing targeting you at this moment. Close quarters fighting boys.

[As a quick comment: feel free to roll attack and damage. I will do it myself if you don't, but due to the number of rolls required I will need to roll with my dice manually, rather than the integrated system. This is also because I can narrate what happens and the scene at the end of the round all in one post, rather than waiting for rolls. All numbers shown are with modifiers added.]

Brennic will strike down another rat with his hammer and also snarl and hiss in an effort to convince these creatures that he is the dominant monster here and they should flee, or be eaten.

The Repentant Soldier says...

Fighting back a sense of panic as the rats swarm around him, Alexi uses his shield to bat some of the rats away while he swings his sword in an arc trying to slash as many as he can.

Out of Character: I will include several attack and damage rolls if you choose to go more than one round/turn per post

Gradard climbs up onto Brennics shoulders to get out of the horde of rats and casts firebolt at the nearest large rat. He keeps on doing this over and over again until all the rats are either gone or dead. [6 rolls for 6 rounds]

[Not the best move Gradard? You move out of the final giant rats threat, incurring an opportunity attack. However I believe I made the situation clear and so it will stand.]

Round 2

Gradard, flees the Giant rat beside him. Zipping past Rhovador to get to Brennic. It isn't before he gets to Brennic who is also covered in rats that he realized he has been injured (Opportunity attack, Giant rat attack roll:19, damage:3. Deciding that adding your weight to the rats already on Brennic might not be a good idea you remain next to him. Throwing a fire bolt back at the giant rat, you hit (Attack roll with disadvantage:14, damage:2) You scorch some fur off the snarling beast.

Rhovador moves in to finish the giant rat off, drawing his short swords in the process. (Attack roll:12, DMG:6) You finish off the final giant rat and strike out at the rats covering Alexi. (Attack roll, off hand:18 damage:6) you hack away at several rats with your off hand.

Alexi's wild swings fail to hit the rats swarming his body

The rats continue to attack Alexi and Brennic (Alexi:3, 3, both miss. Brennic: 18, 11, one hit: 5 piercing damage.

Brennic snarls and hisses as he swings. However the rats pay him no heed in their frenzied movement all over him and Alexi. Swinging down he hits on an 11 and pulps many small rats with his hammer, 11 damage.

[Thanks for the extra rolls, I shall use a few now to do another round. By the way if I am rolling disadvantage, I roll once more for the second roll rather than using one you guys have]

Round 3

Gradard lets loose another fire bolt but is distracted by the rats right up close(Disadvantage roll to attack:6)

Rhovador swings with his duel short swords (20, 23, two hits. Damage:6, 4) dealing massive damage to an already injured swarm on Brennic.

Alexi swings again, (19, damage: 10) almost taking out a swarm of rats.

A moment later you all find yourselves swinging at air as the rats suddenly disperse, faster than they arrived, leaving their dead brethren behind. A fire bolt from Gradard roasts a slightly slow one as they flee.

[Oops] Gradard exclaims "What the wizazo kind of thing caused those enormous rats!" Gradard examines his wounds and bandages them up.

"Come back and face us, cowards!"

Brennic also wraps a quick bandage round the worst of the bites, wincing slightly at the pain before answering his companion's question.

"Foul things. Some horrific spawn of Talona I guess. It may be that these townsfolk have forgotten to appease her."

He then shakes a finger at Gradard.

"As for you what, what..." Words just fail him as he is unable to comprehend the wildness and chaocity of gnomes.

After a moment he shakes his head.

"I think they went that way. Let us move on."
