Dang! I thought I had it. I found one that fit the description male, died over 100years ago over age 50, never married, military guy, last name starts with S...he even has a statue...and then I realized he was not born in the U.S. Back to thinking...
You know Klar, this is hard! I was curious if you may have forgot that Samuel Houston was actually married? Just curious!
I figured that Sam Houston was an awesome choice, because Klar said he couldn't tell us where the statue was or it would give it away....
We need more clues KLAR! Or your going to be the first one to stump us all! Then you have to go again!
Okay, I'm going to make a stab in the dark...well, not really a stab...more of a stumble...but - I do believe I have a WINNER....
Would you be Brigadier General Sylvanus Thayer?
Also known as "The Father of West Point" and namesake of the Sylvanus Thayer award established in honor of Col. Sylvanus Thayer, 'Father of the Military Academy,' which is presented to an outstanding citizen whose service and accomplishments in the national interest exemplify the Military Academy motto, "Duty, Honor, Country."
I have to admit I have never heard of this guy but now I know more about him than I ever dreamed of. You picked a good one!
