Father Confesses To Suffocating 3-month-old Son

Being a mom of an almost 2 months old baby, I just cannot comprehend such a terrible act against an innocent infant. cry.gif

QUOTE
An Ogden father has confessed to suffocating his 3-month-old son. It happened while the infant's mother was at work.

Police say the 27-year-old father called his wife at work and said something was wrong with the baby. She told him to call 911 and then raced home from work, which was just a few blocks away. But when she got home and emergency crews arrived at the residence they were living in on 23rd Street in Ogden, the 3-month-old infant was already dead.

Police questioned both parents but say the 27-year-old father, David Grant Swapp, confessed. "Questioning revealed the fact that the father deliberately caused the infant's demise by placing the baby on his face and exerting pressure until the baby stopped breathing," explained Lt. Tony Fox, with the Ogden Major Crimes Bureau.

The baby was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The baby's father was arrested, but police did not say if he told them why he suffocated the infant.

"Infants can be frustrating for parents. It's just a shame that nobody caught this, the fact that the child was just too much for this father to handle, and this is what the end result was," Fox said.

Police say the Swapps were struggling financially. They were being assisted by Your Community Connection (YCC) and lived in transitional housing.

Son -month-old Suffocating Confesses Father

This is so sad! It happens way to often as well.

I remember at the hospital after my babies were born, they told us there would be days when you would be so over-the-top and feel you couldn't handle it but to leave the baby in the crib for awhile, even if it was crying, and WALK AWAY!

What a tragedy.

I guess it takes a strong person to raise a child especially a baby. When I was taking care of my little girls at home while my wife worked there were times I felt a little over welmed. I would look at them laying there in their crib and think how lucky I was to have a child who looked up to me. That is all it took for me to put aside my frustrations and enjoy my daughter. I would hold them and feed them and play with them as much as I could to occupy the time. As they got older it became a lot easier and I am glad they are a part of me.

I hope this guy gets some help for it sounds like he got frustrated and did not know what to do. If he does not want help them he needs to fry. No innocent child should have this done to them.
