In my opinion, the first conviction should be a very stiff fine and some required education. The person would only get their license back after completion of the class. Call it a graduation diploma from drunk driving university if you want. I believe this is being done in several states now. Upon completion, your car would be outfitted with a breathalizer for 6 months. The second time should be at least 1 to 3 days in jail and suspension of the license from 3 months to 12 months depending on the situation. Again, counselling is a requirement and a license will be granted after successful completion of the counselling. The counselling will spend a great deal of time on the fact that the next time will result in no license at all and some jail time. At this point, your car will be required to use a breathalizer for 2 years. Finally, if you are a threepeat loser, your license is gone for good and you get 1 month or more in jail. The time would depend on the circumstances of the arrest.

At any point during the suspensions, if you are found to be driving, your license is automatically gone. It will be unfair for a few people at first, but the word will get out. The law wont stop everyone, but it will make a few think before getting behind the wheel drunk.

I also had a idea for a drunk driving tax. This would be a tax that is placed on alcoholic beverages. The monies would be given to private taxi cab companies in exchange for free rides home or as I would like to think of it as prepaid rides home. Of course this is unfair to the truly moderate drinker, so I haven't figured out a way to get around that issue.

License suspended but you just dont feel like hanging around the house? Now legally I cant drive, BUuuuuuuut, if I pretend to be teaching my 13yr old son...hmmm. Now that will probably work...what could possibly go wrong?

QUOTE
Boy, 13, drove 79 mph, authorities say
A 13-year-old boy from Appleton who was pulled over near Neenah about 10:30 Sunday night for driving 79 mph
on U.S. Highway 41 near Highway G has been referred to juvenile court, according to a
news release issued by the State Patrol.

The boy's mother, 41, was a passenger in the vehicle and
told the trooper she was teaching her son to drive.

The mother had a suspended driver's license and was
cited for knowingly permitting her son to drive.

The names of the boy and his mother were not released.

Sometimes we are too clever for our own good! I have the strangest feeling she is a repeat offender.

Drivers Drunk Serial

THe problem with habitual drunk drivers is nothing we do is going to prevent them from getting into a car and driving it while drunk. I had a truck that was parked legally and pretty much totalled after a drunk driver hit it. He decided to use his fathers car. Hitting and totalling my truck was the 16th drunk driving charge. His dad could not drive either he has had nine charges of Drunk driving.

This is just sad, to be that hooked on booze to put your 13 year old son behind the wheel and teach him all the bad you know. She needs rehabilitation and lots of after support.

I have no issue with a drink with a meal but that should be the limit. Why because with food no one unless you have an allergy to it will have an issue driving. Caught once license gone period no trial automatic. Caught twice you just are not getting it back period no exception because this person has no conscience of their own actions. hard yes it is but drunk driving is curable don't drink if you know you have to go out, pretty darn easy.

I love the idea of the taxi tax and for the moderate drinker would and extra 2 dollars on a bottle or case of beer make any difference not likely.

I like turkeys law on drunk driving. If you are caught for the first time it will be your last. They execute you on the spot. No more problem.

I bet that would change a person way of thinking! Wow I ponder what the legal limit is in Turkey.

Serial Drunk Drivers Psychology Special & Health

I thought I was hardcore when it came to drunk driving, but it sounds as if Turkey is more stringent than I! I would at least prefer a little due process of law.

However, I do think that people in general give a lot of lip service to being against drunk driving. But there are no real teeth in our laws. That tells me that there is no real commitment to ending the crime.

I believe that once someone drives drunk, they should serve mandatory jail time. It is akin to attempted to murder in my book. I deeply resent someone putting me and mine at risk because they wanted to drink too much and couldn't be bothered to take a taxi. That is such a cruel disregard for human life. There can be NO excuse. A person who drives drunk should be severely punished and shouldn't only lose their driving privileges for awhile...they should serve hard time for such a serious crime.
