The easy answer to this question is to visit one. There are many in the phone book, look up one and ask for a tour. Say that you are doing a school report and that you need first hand experience to see what conditions are like.

Comments: There are rehabs of all shapes and sizes. There are outpatient places as well as those you reside at for a month or more. There are places that cater to specific demographics, such as teens, religious sects, men/women, etc. Most have staff doctors who can prescribe medication for detoxification/withdrawal. At the end of the day, these places will NOT keep you sober long term (unfortunately, it requires continual effort on your part), but they can give you a tool set to do so.
