The Turin Shroud

Do you believe the Turin Shroud really bears the image of Jesus Christ or is it a fake? The following link gives references both for and against it:

Shroud Turin The

I was recently reminded of this after watching the Passion of Christ, however, I personally do not think it is the actuall cloth used to cover Christ's face nor wipe his blood as is portrayed in the Mel Gibson movie.

Not having ever seen it or handled it, I have no solid opinion about it. It certainly is a controversial item, and I really would like to actually get a good look at it.

When I first heard about it years ago I thought everybody went mad!. I still not believing it is the real one, there is no proof whatsoever that is the cloth Christ used to wipe his blood.

Shroud Turin The

i honestly have no clue about its authenticity...but if there's blood on it, couldn't they do like a DNA test on it? though if it did originate from 1350, then that's prob already been thrown out...

i guess i really just don't know about it...

In 1988 they made a test and they determine that the cloth date medieval times but a new discovery took place recently.

Rogers found that the sample used in the 1988 investigation did indeed date to medieval times but the threads examined were from a patch, likely sewed on by nuns sometime around 1260 to 1390, in an effort to restore the shroud after it was damaged by fire. In fact, the rest of the shroud proved to be much older. According to a January 2005 Associated Press article, Rogers said he analyzed "the amount of vanillin, a chemical compound that is present in linen from the flax fibers used to weave it, " which is known to "slowly disappear from the fiber over time at a calculated rate." The samples he studied had hardly any vanillin on them, indicating that the shroud was between 1,300-3,000 years old rather than around 700 years old as previously purported...

SHROUD OF TURIN - LOCAL SCIENTIST SAYS THE CLOTH COVERED CHRIST

While periodic claims continue to surface purporting to debunk the Shroud of Turin as a hoax - including one made earlier this year by an Idaho academic - one local scientist has no doubt that the cloth covered the crucified Christ and has survived intact for nearly two millennia.
