It takes Ajit some time, but he is able to pinpoint the anomaly though it is fairly faint. It's some sort of signal going out in pulses that are becoming more frequent and closer together what is interesting is that the pulses seem to be coming from outside of the ship. At the same time, Shuth continues to try run further tests on the crew despite the fact that his olfactory senses are screaming at him that something is on fire! He too notes that the strange brain pattern that he observed when the crew first came back from the Elena remains but that it also seems to have a pulsating effect whose rate is increasing.
At first Gaden receives no answer but eventually he can hear a soft whisper, the voice of his wife, she sounds as though she is in pain "Why did you leave? It's so dark here. You left me… come be with with me. It's so lonely here ... "
I'm going to have Njall make an Engineering/mechanic roll to successfully disconnect the controls to the fuel/air vents, also an intrusion roll to alter the access code for the airlock; both tests will be with a -1DM as he struggles to clear his mind.
I'm assuming Electrical engineering will be applicable to disconnect controls. Njall doesn't have Intrusion, but perhaps Computer 0 will count to negate the unskilled penalty .
Ajit shares what he sees on the sensors screens, hoping the other will believe him this time. "There is something just outside the ship that is sending some kind of pulsating signal. It is hard to get a lock on, but I know it is out there. It may have something to do with these bugs and all the symptoms we have been experiencing. Maybe it is their hive that we can't see for some reason." Ajit starts to trail off at the end as he starts considering the possibilities of how this pulsating signal might be controlling the bugs and related to all their other symptoms.
"Ajit this is Dr. Shuth. We need to compare what your picking up with the brain activity anomalies I am getting with the crew that went to the Elena. I think they may be related and what is causing all of this is from a outside force." Shuth also mentions this to the others. "If two of us are noticing something that is different but still the same it would help us to work together to figure this out. Ajit can you get me a historical log of these pulses so I can compare them to some of the brain wave activities I have collected from the crew. Say the past few days?"
"I'm not as smart as you two, but it seems to me that if you can pinpoint a source outside the ship we can shoot it. Work out what it was from the debris. I want to end the problem more than I want to understand it. Though anything following the ship in J-Space is… troubling."
Krakrefr passes the time by gnawing something, he wants to feel that his teeth are still there. He hears the conversation and says "If there is something on the outer hull I'll go to remove it now! I can't stand at the thought of not having teeth!"
Suth's comparison of the data he has collected over the past few days regarding the brainwaves of the crew matches, almost perfectly with the pulses that Ajit collected in the sensor data. There is definitely a correlation between the two; as the energy signature from the exterior of the ship increases, the anomalous brain wave activity increases along with it.
"Can you two think of a way to block those signals? Or jam them?"
"We might have this wrong. The problem might not be bugs from the belt, it might be something to do with the misjump. Maybe some J-Space phenomenon or entity attached itself to the Elena and is now following us."
