Ajit alerts the others through their comms "Coming out of Jump space has made countering this things psychic signals nearly impossible. I don't think we can hold out the hour it takes for help to arrive. Do we have any options to try to fight this thing?"
Ajit scrambles with the sensors trying to see if the beast can be seen on external cameras or if there is any way to use their sensor array to pinpoint the location of this thing more accurately.
"I'll see if we can boost the signal of our device by transmitting through the ships comms array. Anyone rated on Comms want to help?"
"We ought to prepare for EVA, see if we can find the thing with Mark 1 eyeball. Or Mark 2 IR goggles. Krakrefr, you're EVA qualified, want to take a look? I'll be with you soon."
Njall scribbles some more notes as he works, in case someone else needs to take up where we leave off.
(Out of Character: : I'm rolling on Skill 0, but if Engineer (Electronics) helps, I'll take that +1. I don't think my Int loss gives me negative modifiers yet).
Ajit studies the external cameras intensely and finally he sees something that appears to be out of the ordinary. He spots some sort of discoloration on the fuselage near the engines. Zooming in he sees that the discoloration is actually coming from what looks like dozens of crystals, they appear to be moving around a small mass that has the appearance of some sort of shattered chrysalis.
Ajit studies the sensors intently for quite awhile before suddenly letting out a small whoop. He then returns and inspects the sensors a little more before jumping up. He runs to whoever is nearby and starts telling them about his discovery. He then slowly gets a hold of himself and radios everyone over the comms to relay his news. He tells them about the small of shattered chrysalis and the dozens of crystals on the fuselage near the engine. He then asks if anyone has any ideas of how to fight them. After he has relayed his news though his face falls as he considers that these crystals could be more manifestations of this psycic beast like the bugs. He has someone double check him to see if they see it too, just to be sure.
Out of Character: who else has any skill in sensors? I assume with Ajit directing you exactly where to look, it shouldn't be as hard of a target to hit.
"Knowing that we can now see something on the sensors we can make positive steps to take care of said crystals. I just want to make sure you come back in still whole. I will see what I can find on computer in reference to any of these crystals"
Shuth heads to the medical lab and starts looking up anything that can describe these crystals that can cause the issues we are experiencing..
While Shuth is unable to find this creature specifically he is able to find some references to similar "Lifeforms" if you can call it that. There are some characteristics that this creature has that would suggest that it fits the definition of life, particularly the fact that whatever it is seems to be reproducing in some manner, growing, and there is some suggestion that it is capable of adapting to its environment in some way. However, in order to determine if the other aspects normally associated with life are present (For example if it shows evidence of metabolism, responds to environmental stimuli, etc.) along with its structural makeup Shuth will likely need a sample of it.
Glad to have a physical manifestation of the threat Njall hurries to finish working on boosting the output of the jamming signal. Once he is done he rushes to his stateroom and gets into his HEV suit, eager to get out and do something. As well as taking Doc Shuths sample-containers he arms himself with his laser pistol and a shotgun (Both holstered/slung). On the way to the airlock Njall collects a repair robot unit to accompany the EVA so its cameras, sensors and tools are available.
