In Character: As preparation to undock takes place, Gaden heads back to this bunk to weather the jump and prepare his equipment.
Krakrefr checks, a final time, that cargo is tied properly and then the passenger pods. He then goes to the bridge and says to Maiokus A-OK with his thumb raised. He sits to the copilot seat and gives a glimpse check to the instruments.
Out of Character:Silvertongue, we can sare a cabin. I have some stuff but I have them locked in my locker and I am a quiet Vargr.
Njall will make the pre-flight tour of the ship, checking for faults, with special attention to the drives and scoop inlets. Once satisfied he takes the Engineering section control seat. Activating comms he calls the bridge:
"Njall here. Pre-flight and Engineering OK. If you're happy taking her out I'll keep an eye on things here."
The Wildcard is forced to wait in line for about thirty minutes before given clearance to undock
"Wildcard, you are clear to undock, proceed to lane three alpha for egress to specified 100 diameter jump point. Good travels to you, Regina Orbital out.”
Regina is a busy system and the incoming and outgoing 'lanes' are clogged with traffic. The gentle hum of the thrusters fills the interior of the ship and all instruments and displays appear to be working properly as she lumbers out into open space.
The journey to the 100 diameter mark where you clear the gravity well of the planet takes approximately four hours; this is without turning to decelerate, simply cutting the engines once full 1G acceleration is achieved and then activating the jump drive. The interior lights dim momentarily as Njall siphons power from non-essential systems to supplement the jump drive.
In an instant the Wildcard slips into jump space almost imperceptivity, aside from a few who have reported feelings of nausea or a ‘wrenching’ sensation (That is up to the players on whether their character experiences this phenomenon). The lights inside the ship return to full illumination and the only indication that the ship is actually in jump space is the undulating grav field that surrounds the ship which is faintly visible to the naked eye through the ships view ports; it appears almost as translucent ‘waves’ flowing around the outside of the ship approximately one meter from the hull.
Out of Character: : The Wildcard and her crew will spend the next week or so in the nothingness of jump space. This will give you each an opportunity to further develop your characters through descriptive narrative by describing what they do with their time, conversations they may have with other characters, what kind of training they may do (What it looks like), etc. Do they all get together in the common room of the ship for entertainment (And what does this look like)? Do they eat meals together in common room or do they spend more time separately? How will your characters keep themselves entertained for the next week or so?
I believe whoever is manning/operating the Jump Drive is the one who makes a roll using their Engineering (Jump Drive) skill to ensure there are no misjumps or other malfunctions. Also whoever is manning the Sensors should make a Sensor skill check anytime the ship jumps to cover the sensor sweep that would be conducted shortly after coming out of Jump space.
Njall has the Repair Robot system calibrating the drives while he monitors the control panel. This being the first time he has Jumped this ship he will take his time, making sure things are in order and taking note of how the systems function - the ship is old, there are likely some idiosyncracies.
( I've had no luck on the d12 version, so I'm trying 2d6. Njall's Engineer (J-Drive) 1 gives +1 to them ).
Once in Jumpspace Njall will leave the Robots in charge and head for the Bridge.
"Jumpspace, people. Our own little universe. Drinks?"
In Character: : Maiokus sighs and leans back in the pilots seat closing his eyes. After a few moments, when the dizziness has passed, he stands and says through the ship comms, "Good job everyone. One week til we hit Ruie system." He walks slowly to his cabin to get some much needed sleep.
During the course of the week, Maiokus will take his meals in the crew common area and when not on his normal ship duties will use the ship's library to improve his comms skill.
Shuth will take one of the state rooms as his quarters. He will spend the week setting things up to his liking while eating with the rest of the crew and listening to their stories. He will watch any arms or combat practice to be able to make sure any injuries are taken care of.
