Medical Question - Blunt Force Trauma

I'm writing a novel, and my protagonist just got hit by a car. The EMT shows up, tells her there's no bones, just a big bruise. A few days later, our heroine realizes her leg isn't getting better, and soon it gives out entirely. She is rushed to the hospital, and learns that she had a degenerative condition, and she'll never walk without pain again. Is there an actual condition that presents like this, or do I need to make something up?

What do you mean there are no bones? No bones in her legs or that no bones were broken?

Sorry, that's what happens when I type in a hurry. I meant to say, "There were no bones broken." If she had no bones in her leg, she'd be in real trouble.

Maybe she took a hit to her trochanter major, but it didn't break all the way, but breaks loose later? Or maybe a bone fragment cuts into an artery, and she bleeds in and passes out in school from the drop in blood pressure the next day.

Or maybe I need to re-think the scene entirely.

The condition would stem from the medical experts not doing their job correctly. From my limited knowledge of what happens to the body in trauma / accidents the indicators of problems after an X-ray are: pain and the ability to utilize your body (Move normally, be alert, etc.). If you suddenly started to lose a limb it could only mean a wound was not being treated or the person had a preexisting condition that reacted or activated from the accident. Even so, I do not know what would react fast enough to make it an issue while in the hospital's care. Have you sought out help from medical personnel?
