D-Day was an awesome undertaking. An invasion against a motivated, well entrenched, experienced enemy is the hardest undertaking in the military. This was a near run thing and it barely worked, but once it worked we crammed an amazing amount of troops and material into the beachhead and broke the back of the German army.

Yes, salute to the greatest generation. They really did save the world. Thanks to our allies who went ashore with us as well. We couldn't have done it without the UK and Canada.

No matter how many movies or shows they make nothing can take the place of the horrors and bravery that took place on the beach of Normandy on this day 73 years ago. I salute those who risked their lives.

Yeah, there is only one movie that does it any justice at all, and that is according to my dad who fought in the Pacific with the USMC and was part of multiple beach landing. That was the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan. We watched that together and his knuckles turned white and he started sweating while watching it.

As far as the men who participated, they weren't called the greatest generation for nothing. These men and women lived through the Great Depression and fought and won WW 2. They powered the country that became known as the Arsenal of Democracy. And they fought in battles that were some of the greatest in history.
