Jobless Millions Signal Death of the American Dream for Many
By Paul Harris

Whether it's the poor of Camden or Colorado Springs or Atlanta, or among the growing throngs of the 99ers, millions of Americans are discovering that working hard, doing the right thing and obeying the rules are no longer enough. Ref. Source 8

It is hard to believe that people do not want to work because they are making more by getting their weekly free handouts from the USA government. I think that unemployment is not going to change much as long as the congress keeps handing out these pay to sit at home checks.

KN, there is no way the folks stuck scrabbling for the pittance provided by unemployment or any other dole are happier doing nothing and starving instead of working and being able to provide more of their own wants and needs. I admit there are plenty of folks out there who will work at playing the system, but they have been scamming well before the situation we are in now.

Seems to me the large corporate interests have begun the move of their focus from the wes to the east. The fatted calf of the US and European population that has been exploited has been bled nearly dry and the lucrative consumer population of China and India beckons.

You would be surprised at what some are doing. I have a brother in law who lost his job and has been sitting at home not working not looking for work because he is getting almost as much from the government as he did when he was working. He is getting more per month tax free from the government for sitting on his butt than I do before taxes are taken out. That saddens me. I have heard of others who are not looking for work because the jobs do not pay as well as the governments handouts. Yeah I know some may be struggling but there is a clear case of workers who do not want to look for a job because they have it good.

Maybe it depends on which state one is in. The compensation here in Florida is pretty minimal. I know plenty of folks that are trying like hell to get work and most have taken to re training. I hope it will do them all some good.

Yeah I know there are many who want to find a job any type of job so that they can keep their house or put food on the table for their families. I just think there would be many more jobs available if the government would stop the welfare they are handing out to many of these unemployed workers who are getting paid more than the average joe by sitting on their rears.

I see this a lot too. I've never been on any gov support, unemployment, SSI disability and whatever .. But, they almost have to be getting a lot more than workers, because some of the people who lost their jobs I know of are hard laborers that just don't bother to find another job.

Kinda sad really. Hope they snap outta it.

What I'm wondering is what all the troops returning home from Iraq going to do if there is so much unemployment here already?
