Unemployment US

I believe that the USA unemployment rate is a lot higher than what they wish to tell us. The fact that it just takes in the number of those receiving or filing for unemployment shows that they are not really concerned about the masses who are out of work and not receiving any payments. How many countless people are really unemployed? 16%, 22% or as high as 40%

I totally agree with you. The unemployment is likely higher than that which is being reported. How the calculate unemployment, how they set criteria for what unemployed means are all factors in this final number. How they elect to parse the numbers and adjust the criteria give different results and with political jobs most susceptible to the state of the economy, I can absolutely see reasons to swing it your way a few percentage. However, if things don't get better, it will catch up with them!

I like to equate this to the poverty level. When Clinton got into the office, he postponed resting the base line for poverty (had not been changed in decades) in his first term. He actually delayed it until his second term was just about to expire and then the new baseline for poverty was sent to the appropriate committees for approval. The bottom line was that Clinton could claim the lowest poverty level of any modern president. The approval came after GWB was elected and instantaneously made him one of the presidents with a high poverty level and one of the biggest increases in poverty during his term...all on paper as they were no less richer or poorer under Clinton.

It was all just political gesturing and gamesmanship.
