I do not blame them they are out there doing the work most likely paying for their own fuel and the company makes record profits. Nope price of oil is not ruled by greed.

They are not underpaid though, as the average pay for the truck drivers is £36,000/$72,000 PA!
I don't think many people here have any sympathy for them as they are basically holding the nation to ransom on the fuel stoppages, when everyday folk are already paying out huge hyped up prices!

Panic buying has seen many petrol stations shut due to having run out of fuel!

If that wage is fair compared to the rest of the peer group then the company will be very slow to give more. I think of it this way if the employer share his wealth with the one who make it for him then the company runs better.

I also could not determine if they own their own trucks or if they are company issue. If they own them then a huge pay raise is going to be required for them to afford to drive as they would have to pay for their own fuel. If they are company issue then they are just looking for their cut in the massive profits the company is hauling in. I do not blame them for that but would caution them not to price them selves into unemployment either.

Go to the bottom graph if this was your boss and you were negotiating what would you do? Take a 3 % cost of living index or say hey I would like to actually gain ground on my wages against the cost of living index.

If they get it then if you like the wages go get a job with them, I hate driving so I never would. I will not nay say them for trying to better their wages either. You are paying high prices yes but at no fault of the labor charges of the transport services. So lets not take our frustration out on them. Does any one really think that a 10 % increase would effect you price on the pump? I do not think so.

I do not know about over there but another 10% increase at the pumps here would not make me very happy. If these truck drivers are holding out for more pay they may find themselves in the unemployment line. With gas running low and no more coming in to stations the public is not going to be very happy with shell oil. I think shell needs to find a way to end this before they lose more customers who are tired of waiting for gas to roll in. If this continues longer how many stores will go out of business for lack of funds rolling in top cover expenses. I am sure that will give a nice name to shell and its drivers.

Now hold it a minute. Maybe I am wrong but how does a 10% increase in the driver wage equate to 10% on the pump? I do not know the exact amount it would be on the pump but well under 1% or even .5% I am more then wiling to think. The real issue for the cost here is the cost of the crude.

Now the profit here is huge and well they are entitled to it. My question is where did it arise from? Is all the profit being earned from the sale of crude oil buy this company or the refined oil? If it is the refined oil then why do they not drop the price?

Let us keep in mind if the drivers desire the wage increase and are wiling to tick of the population to get it why should they not be allowed? has you union never gone on strike for a measly 3 % or some benefits that you customer had to pay for? Why is ok for gm to strike or ford but not this group?

Sorry I say free play for all. Yes I understand the ramification of their action on the average person need to fuel for getting to work. Is the whole idea of striking not to make others hurt so that there is pressure on management to sell fast. I think their tactics are harsh but should end up effective.

Now for a new venue of thought should oil refineries and the logistics systems they used be considered then same as a Doctor or Nurse and striking be disallowed? or have sever restriction on it as to how they can do it?

My union is not allowed to strike. That makes it real fun when negotiations come around. I am not saying a 10% increasing their pay would translate into a 10% increase in the price at the pumps but it would not surprise me if the oil companies did that. Heck they may jump the price by more than 10%. I have seen oil companies do things that seem to make no sense. BUt I guess that is why they are keeping their profit margin soo high.
