Senate approves Vivek Murthy for U.S. Surgeon general
The Senate voted Monday to approve the first Indian-American to serve as the nation's top doctor. Vivek Murthy was opposed by Republicans and the National Rifle Association because of his political advocacy for President Obama, the Affordable Care Act, and past statements calling guns a public health concern.
