Dominica Weather: Storms
Is Meteorology - Climatology a popular subject of study in Dominica? Who are some of the most known atmospheric sciences people from Dominica?
In Dominica which natural occurrence happens the most often: storms, flooding, earthquake, blizzards, drought, heat or cold wave, and so forth?
JB,
I read some of his tweets and they are heart wrenching and terrifying. At one point he talks about surviving only with the grace of God. I can't imagine that and I've been through war. Being trapped like that and completely powerless must be worse than war though. And the thing is, unlike US residents in Florida, there is no place for residents of those islands to run when a storm like that bears down. I hope this hurricane season eases off now.
September is the most active month during the hurricane season so I doubt and it does not end until November. If it keeps leveling these countries then they will no longer be nations. Dominica, a poor country, will have to consider building with pure concrete or building into the mountains. Its time for these islands to rethink how they live.

Yes, but even pure concrete needs a roof and with 160mph winds roofs can get torn off and then you at the mercy of the storm. They may need storm cellars like people in tornado alley in the US build. The problem with that is the flooding though. This is a tough situation and I don't know the answer. We've had a dozen years of relatively light hurricane seasons. If that cycle is changing then these island nations are in for it.
