The Science Of Sarcasm - Page 2

QUOTE (Debate @ 22-Jun 08, 8:13 PM)

They are all hard shell on the outside but soft as nougat on the inside so be careful guys.

A bit stereotypical don't you think?
My experience has been that women can give and take sarcasm with the best of them. If a woman appears to not appreciate a sarcastic remark, perhaps there is more to her disdain than is apparent.
Sarcasm is best used judiciously. Overuse and bad timing lessons the impact and can misfire.
As the article points out, it is all about the ability to recognize the cues - the voice inflections and facial expression. Some people with mental illness and TBI (traumatic brain injury) have lost this ability and will take everything literally. This can be humorous to the casual observer, but to them it can be frustrating and cause them distress.
