Changeling: the Dreaming is to the World of Darkness what Bozo the Clown is to serial killers. They just don't fit together. In this iteration, Changelings are creatures who fled Arcadia. They don't remember why, only the Bad Things happened there and they had to leave. So they tried to integrate into the real world, with limited success. Your character is one of several Kiths of faerie creatures, drawn out of fairy tales. Pookas, who change into animals and are bound to always lie, Eshu, mysterious wanderers who always show up when needed, Redcaps, with a taste for violence and the ability to eat anything, Trolls who are (Surprise!) big and strong, and several others. They also come in three age groups, or Seemings, Childlings, flush with the power of Glamour, but young, Wilders, teenagers who are less powerful in Glamour, and more steeped in the real world, and Grumps, who are respected elders despite their loss of power.
At a certain point in your life, your Fae nature asserts itself, and you start interacting with the Dreaming, which is that place where mortals and stories interact most often. And here is where the disconnect is. The Dreaming is a pretty nice place, all things considered. Sure, there are scary things in it, but the damage they do is imaginary. . .excuse me, I meant Chimerical. It won't kill you, really, just shut you off from the Dreaming while it heals. In a setting called the World of Darkness, light and gaiety abound here among the Changelings.
There's nothing wrong with Changeling: the Dreaming in and of itself. As a Storyteller game, is stands up fine. I just couldn't figure out how to link it to the rest of the world in this version. And as a Storyteller game, it works fine in Play By Post formats.
