Arcana Unearthed is basically an alternate setting fir Dungeons & Dragons 3.5. While there are are some rule tweaks, and some very different classes to play, if you play Dungeons & Dragons, you already know how to play this one. It is precisely as playable as a Play By Post game as Dungeons & Dragons .
That being said, the world is interesting. Once upon a time, the Giants ruled everything. When their empire fell, the other races picked up the pieces and carried on. Don't mistake these for the giants of Dungeons & Dragons, though. These aren't the stratified races of the ordning, Hill, Stone, Fire, etc. The Giants of this world are a single race, and playable as characters. I enjoy their take on some of the character classes. Oathsworn in particular give me lots of stories to tell, which is what I look for in a game. Oathsworn are essentially monks that derive their considerable power from oaths taken to a specific person or cause. They get a bit OP toward the end, with the power of their oaths forestalling things like death by thirst, starvation, poison and old age. That's quite an oath, right there.
Overall, the world is interesting to me, without being incredibly attractive. While there are stories around, they are stories I might tell, not stories I NEED to tell.
