The Floodwaters

Midwesterners are still battling rising floodwaters after days of violent storms in the region. Some towns have been forced to evacuate while others, like Cedar Falls, Iowa, mobilized to successfully save their homes from the rising waters.

Floodwaters Iowa

For some reason this sounds very familiar to me. I hope to keep a daily record of the happenings here as the days go on. I wish I did this in 1993 when it happened too but did not. I will keep posting pictures on my flickr account. smile.gif

It saddens me on how mant people will lose their homes because of the flooding. I hope that many are able to recover from this. I am glad that very few lives were lost. I hope some crops can be replanted.

Water woes cost D.M. $619,000
https://www.desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs...40375/1001/NEWS

QUOTE
Levee failures and damage from heavy rains in recent weeks have caused Des Moines city leaders to make $619,000 in emergency repairs.

Some of the repairs were needed so quickly, officials said, that there wasn't enough time to seek bids for the work.

These were the problems and the damage totals:

- A sanitary sewer pipe collapsed near South Union Street and Kirkwood Avenue, which caused one lane of South Union to be closed; $29,500 in damage.

This is just part of what is going to be spent in the next few months as the clean up gets more into gear.
