Downton Abbey

This PBS series based in WWII England is a very well produced show. I love the actors and actresses, with everything from ultra-sweeties to love-to-hate bad guys (And gals). My daughter and I watched the first season on Netflix, now the second season started last Sunday night (Jan 8, 2012). It's agony waiting around for the next show!

Abbey Downton

Downton Abbey Season 1:
Sumptuous costume drama Downton Abbey, written and created by Academy AwardTM winner Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, The Young Victoria) boasts an all-star cast featuring Hugh Bonneville (Lost in Austen), Maggie Smith (Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, Harry Potter), Elizabeth McGovern (Clash of the Titans), Michelle Dockery (Cranford), Dan Stevens (Sense & Sensibility), Penelope Wilton (Dr Who, Pride & Prejudice), Jim Carter (Cranford), Phyllis Logan, Siobhan Finneran (Benidorm), Joanne Froggatt (Robin Hood), Rob James-Collier (Coronation Street) and Brendan Coyle (Lark Rise to Candleford). This prestigious ensemble brings the world of Downton to life with splendour and passion.

Set in England in the years leading up to the First World War, Downton Abbey tells the story of a complicated community. The house has been home to the Crawley family for many generations, but it is also where their servants live, and plan, and dream, and they are as fiercely jealous of their rank as anyone. Some of them are loyal to the family and committed to Downton as a way of life, others are moving through, on the look out for betterment or love or just adventure. The difference is that they know so many of the secrets of the family, while the family know so few of theirs. But for all the passions that rage beneath the surface, this is a secure world, serene and ordered, and, at first glance, it seems it will last forever. Little do they know, family or staff, that the clouds of the conflict that will change everything are already gathering over their heads.

Downton Abbey Season 2:
Julian Fellowes' hit drama Downton Abbey returns with all the regular cast including Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Brendan Coyle, Joanne Froggatt and Dan Stevens. Returning to Downton Abbey in 1916, we see the effects of The First World War on the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them. The new series sees the return of all the much loved characters whose intertwined lives are rendered more complicated by wartime and its impact on the great house itself. And when the storms of war have finally cleared, will the way of life known by all the inhabitants of Downton have changed forever?

Downton Abbey Season 3:

The entire third series of the ITV costume drama following the lives and loves of those above and below stairs in an English stately home. With World War One finally over, the 1920s heralds the promise of a new age for those at Downton Abbey. But while the family prepare for the wedding of Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Matthew (Dan Stevens), Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) learns that the future of Downton is in grave jeopardy after the collapse of investments made with his wife (Elizabeth McGovern)'s fortune. With the family beginning to gather for the wedding celebrations, a grand entrance by Cora's thoroughly modern mother, Martha Levinson (Shirley MacLaine), threatens to ruffle a few of the Dowager (Maggie Smith)'s feathers.

Downton Abbey Season 4:
Rosamund hatches a plan to held Edith out of her predicament, but will Violet see straight through it? Isobel is on the receiving end of some unexpected attention, while Mary asks Gillingham for a favour. Rose has her nose put out of join when plans don't go her way, and Alfred realises too late that he may have made a mistake. Just when Bates and Anna seem to be coming through the worst of their troubles, some unexpected news gives her fresh cause for concern.

Downton Abbey

This is one of the best shows I have ever seen. It is magnificently produced and directed. The writer of the series, Julian Fellowes is nothing short of a GENIUS. He has the excellent ability to give the perfect lines to some amazing characters like the great and talented, Maggie Smith. The scenery is great, from the real castle they rent for the series to the costumes, everything to the smallest detail have been thought in careful detail. The story line is engaging and the actors are so great that it is VERY hard to think of these series as "Acting" Because they are so natural. I am watching Season 2, hoping to catch up to Season 5 soon.

Downton Abbey

Had a chance to preview because of Pandora's interest in it. I guess its OK for what its worth but since I'm not into dramas, especially historic British dramas it just wasn't something I can get into. The amount of stress happening in these people's lives they should have one huge nervous breakdown but they hand it routinely like only the British can.

Season 6, Episode 1 – “6.1” – It’s 1925, with Stanley Baldwin as Prime Minister leading a Tory Government. Times are changing, though and there is mutiny in the air. Robert, Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) is desperately trying to hold onto the reins of his estate. As the family take to their horses for the hunt, a bystander yells, ‘Your lot’s had it’. Lady Mary takes a tumble, and an indiscretion from her past comes back to haunt her. Meanwhile, the servants are getting jittery with talk of Downton down-sizing. And romance blossoms behind the green baize door — but is someone getting cold feet?

Season 6, Episode 2 – “6.2” – It’s the final series of Julian Fellowes hugely successful upstairs-downstairs drama, but fans needn’t shed a tear just yet, as there are still seven episodes to go, plus a Christmas special to wrap things up. Tonight, plans for the wedding are gathering steam, but Lady Mary’s meddling lands Carson in trouble with Mrs Hughes. Cora and Violet clash over plans for the hospital takeover, and Thomas’s job search is proving disheartening. Mary comes up with a fresh idea that offers Anna new hope, prompting a trip to London, and Lady Edith faces challenges at the magazine although it’s a problem closer to home that reaches breaking point. A day out for the family and servants ends in panic and leaves Robert facing a difficult decision
