How Well Do You Know Literature? - Question:
I think one missed is Mark Twain, he lead a great life giving stories to the world. One of the great ones was "Pudd'nhead Wilson, most don't know of it but it was a good book.
I am [kind of] torn on F Scott Fitzgerald, the reason is that there is a bit of controversy about who had the idea, him or his wife in his writings.
Charles Dickens, the first I learned of him was Oliver Twist, then Tale of Two Cities. He had a lot of great books but the one mentioned above I haven't yet read.
Edgar Allen Poe, The Gold Bug, was one of my favorites. Also a great poet in his own right.
There are so many writers that can be mentioned as being great, Shakespeare was another great poet, most noted as a play write and the master of the sonnet.
Here is one of my favorite poets Charles ES Wood, The Poet of the Desert. His books are hard to find but I have a couple of them. He lived a adventurous life, spent time with Chief Joseph after the 1877 war with the Nez Perce Indians, his son also would spend summers with the chief.
There is also a great book about Chief Joseph, Hear me, my Chiefs. There wasn't just one chief of the Nez Perce, each tribe had a chief and with Chief Joseph his brother was also a chief. I spent time with the Nez Perce Indians in Idaho on one of our adventures. We went fishing and were invited to a Pow Wow with the tribe. Edited: Jotto on 23rd May, 2015 - 2:21am
That's definitely from The Great Gatsby. In the movie they actually cut out "That I've been turning over in my mind ever since." I have never understood why Hollywood would take a book/story and make so many changes to it - all in the name of speeding things up. Too often they cut necessary moments (I'll stop before I go on a rant about Ender's Game or Starship Troopers).
