Most of the biggest telecommunications companies deliver the worst broadband services, according to a report commissioned by the Commerce Commission.

I'd say that was pretty true here also. We are with a small broad band provider, but have never had a problem, whereas when we were with one of the major suppliers we had nothing but problems!
we are constantly asked why we don't use the broadband for free that is included in our home phone package, and the answer is simply that we would rather pay and know that we are guaranteed a reliable service.

The problem with smaller broadband providers is lack of coverage. Usually they only cover areas where they are located 'x' miles from so you end up with the bigger provider only because you have no choice. If you can team up with your neighbors and hook up a satellite network then you can truly go fast!
