The European Space Agency's Philae probe landed today on Comet 67P, the agency says, the first time in history a spacecraft has made a soft landing on a comet.
About seven hours earlier, the lander had separated from the mother ship Rosetta to begin its descent to the comet, which is is 500 million kilometers (310 million miles) from Earth. The mission was launched 10 years ago. Ref. CNN
Europe's Philae comet lander wakes up, contacts Earth
The European Space Agency says its Philae comet lander, which ran out of power 60 hours after its historic landing in November, has woken up and contacted Earth. "Incredible news! My lander Philae is awake!" The agency's Rosetta Mission tweeted. Scientists lost connection with the solar-powered lander after it was dropped on Comet 67/P by its mothership Rosetta. Ref. USAToday
