Space Mining is a huge part of our future as a species. But yes, who made the US the ones to decide about claiming sites on Moon, Mars and beyond? Imagine if aliens come and find them trespassing in their fields...that would be...interesting at least.
I personally would like to see mining on earth stop. How many millions of miles have we already dug? How many more before we crack the earth in two? So why not dig it out in space not polluting our air. Assuming we can drop off the payload in a some what clean fashion. Also some of our rarest minerals and elements here are very plentiful in asteroids. So maybe it is worth a look at. Might even find some new ones that can help in our mission of finding a better cleaner power source.
