US Senate Passes Law to Legalize Space Mining:

Congress passed H.R. 2262, a celestial "Finders Keepers" Law, that grants U.S. Citizens to legally claim natural resources mined in space. Ref. Source 9i

Can anyone really decide they own something in space? It might be more of a first come first served basis more that saying you "Own it".

Good point Alien but is that not the same philosophy that was used when America was discovered? So I think we will use the same old methods again possession means ownership unless your can pry it from my cold dead hands.

I just like to know who made the US the interstellar law makers? WW4 might be in outer space.

Mining Space

Space Mining is a huge part of our future as a species. But yes, who made the US the ones to decide about claiming sites on Moon, Mars and beyond? Imagine if aliens come and find them trespassing in their fields...that would be...interesting at least.

If you can mine it in plenty then what will be its worth when you bring it back? Don't we have all the natural resources we could ever want? The rich want to be god-like and own the universe.

I personally would like to see mining on earth stop. How many millions of miles have we already dug? How many more before we crack the earth in two? So why not dig it out in space not polluting our air. Assuming we can drop off the payload in a some what clean fashion. Also some of our rarest minerals and elements here are very plentiful in asteroids. So maybe it is worth a look at. Might even find some new ones that can help in our mission of finding a better cleaner power source.

Yes space mining is the easiest way to mine some heavy metals to build a ship that can reach the stars. Building a ship in space will save a lot of costs of trying to launch part after part up to be put together.
