President Trump met a group of parents, teachers and students at the White House Wednesday to discuss ways to prevent massacres like the one last week at a Florida high school. The meeting, billed as a "Listening session," was not expected to produce any immediate policies or regulations but rather lay the groundwork for possible changes in the future. Trump voices support for certain gun control measures

President Trump signaled his support for a hodgepodge of policies -- from strengthening background checks to raising the minimum age to buy certain guns and taking guns away from the mentally ill -- during a meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers at the White House on Wednesday.

The wide-ranging meeting included blunt back-and-forths between Trump and members of both parties.

"You're afraid of the NRA," Trump told senators in an exchange over raising the age to buy firearms.

But after an hour-long televised meeting, it was still unclear what specific legislation Trump would support. Ref. CNN.

A striking number of suspects linked to violent attacks in schools and other public places last year had symptoms of mental illness and nearly half were motivated by real or perceived personal grievances, according to a new Secret Service report. The agency examined 28 attacks which claimed nearly 150 lives and wounded hundreds of others, from Orlando to Las Vegas. The analysis had been underway months before the Feb. 14 massacre at a Parkland, Fla., high school, but its findings are likely to further fuel concerns about the untreated mentally ill and their access to high-powered firearms. The facts are out there but I don't see anything be done urgently to address what is happening now. I don't know if today's shooting was because of a mentally ill person but anyone going into a school to shoot children is pretty close to being mentally disturbed.
