Yes, this is 100,000 tons of American engineering know how. This ship carries 100 of the most technologically advanced aircraft in the world. By itself it has more air power than most countries and we have 11 of them. We also have 9 smaller assault ships that carry aircraft and helicopters… which are as big as or bigger than other countries' aircraft carriers. That said, there was a time we could launch two or three of these a year… not so any more.
Having a modern up to date war ship within a modern up to date support ships for said warship can make a big difference in a battle. Whether it is a carrier fleet or a battle ship fleet we are proving that we are a force to be recogned with on the seas.
KN,
We've proven that we are force to be reckoned with on the sea for a long time. At the end of WW 1 out navy was the largest in the world and it has maintained that position since. The difference is, where at the beginning of WW 2 we were barely the largest navy and any two of the next four largest navy's together could have bested us, now our navy is larger and stronger than probably the next ten navies combined. We are just that strong. No more battleships, but they are obsolete anyway and have been for decades. But our carriers are just that powerful and a carrier task force is nigh unstoppable short of nuking it.
Yeah, the pounded pretty good. But the USAF was pounding pretty good too. We have other things now to take the place of the battleships. I don't know that what we have today can do nearly as good a job, but it doesn't matter. All of the Iowas are gone from the rolls.
