Mining is the most important sector of the DRC's economy. The DRC has vast mineral wealth and the three most important are cobalt, copper, and diamonds. The DRC is the world's largest producer of cobalt ore. The largest mines in the DRC are located in southern Katanga province. They are highly mechanized, with a capacity of several millions of tons per year of copper and cobalt ore, and refining capability for to match. The DRC is the second-largest diamond-producing nation in the world.
