Indeed, its just a bit too easy in 5E to recover
Its 3.5e where it would come in handy, as that edition not only requires the master to wait a year and a day to replace the familiar, it is explicitly a replacement, rather than the same being.

I would not make it a easy resurrection but I would make it possible if one wished it. I can do this for any character in any campaign I Dungeon Master. I am even willing to work with a person if their familiar is that special to them. But that would be a case by case basis.
While some of you are getting specific with game version remember these things:
1. When a feature is added to the Text Role-playing Game Creator it is up to the Dungeon Master how it is used
2. Even if the feature was created it will still be up to the Dungeon Master if it is implemented
3. Even if a Dungeon Master were to allow this feature its still up to the Player whether they want to use this
Therefore, just because something exists it does not have to affect your style of play or in other words you do not have to use it if you want to keep it 'real' for you and your character.
