The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) urged Congress this week to move forward on legislation to improve energy efficiency and sustainability in housing without driving costs above manageable levels. Jerry Howard, NAHB executive vice president and CEO testified before a House Financial Services Committee hearing on H.R. 6078, the Green Resources for Energy Efficient Neighborhood Act (or the GREEN Act) of 2008.

I wonder if this will actually drive housing prices up again by making houses more "green friendly"? I know a lot of houses on the market now are not "green" type houses. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I think offering reduced interest rates to homes that are better built is a great idea. How that in turn will effect the rest of the market will be interesting. Will it drive the prices of the other homes down or inflate them?

I would have bought a home like this but to get one would have meant building it and that was way more expensive then buying the one I did.

Even a reduced interest rate can still price a house out of some peoples price range. I was lucky to get the house I am in I doubt if I could ever afford one of these homes.

I doubt I could either but in time as they come up for resale and as more get built the cost will drop. Look at windows one used to pay a high premium for ecoat and such now it is very little. Solar tube used to be 600 now they re 300. So in time it will get better and this program should help it be sooner then later.

Yes this is true maybe in the future when I am rich I can have my dream house built.
