I believe what they are saying is the peer pressure among teens can cause a person to take up smoking. I know some think it makes them look cool and others start simply because they see their parents smoking all the time. I know it is a hard habit to break once you start.

Peer pressure is a big one but I think we need to keep in mind it is also the emotional suppression that can occur from it just like any habit (over eating, drinking ect). High school can be a real roller coaster emotionally.

Yes I am living that roller coaster ride with four kids right now. Well not right now they are out for the summer. But it will pick back up very soon. smile.gif

I know out of all five of my children only the eldest smokes. SHe started smoking after stealing cigarettes from her step dad. Her mother and him are still denying that she got them from him. The others do not smoke and have no desire to smoke. I hope it stays that way.

It makes some sense. When you think about it, at least way back when I was in high school, you had your different cliques. One of them was the smokers. Those that hung out in "smokers' corner" were usually those who were not involved in school activities whether it was academics, sports, music, drama, whatever. Sure some of the other kids smoked on occasion, but they were not part of the smoker clique.

You even have the stoners cliche that some belong to. Only they do not smoke tobacco. I found out my youngest daughter really likes one of these stoner types. I am hoping that she sees him for who he is and does not get a rep of being a stoner chick. She is into athletics and band so maybe that will help her wake up.

That's a hard one. I hope she makes the right choices. If you try to interfere it could backfire on you.

KNtoran I am sure she will see the light, you are in our thoughts on this one. I fear my oldest will fall into the peer pressure real hard.
